Laurie Orsi’s artwork seeks to blend both the wonders of the natural world with out-of-this-world colorful expressions, turning insects to jewels and fish to undulating scribbled patterns.
Each childhood summer in Arkansas, spent between the chorus of critters that sang in her backyard, the creek, and the lizards she’d stuff in her pockets (god bless them) contributed to the many things Laurie is fascinated to draw today—usually fish, bugs, produce, and portraits.
Her approach is to blend a variety of quick mediums that get the job done right. Her favorites include pen and ink, photography, and paper craft, which she blends with digital painting, sketching, and photoshop techniques to create her “illustrative collages,” which seek to juxtapose naive and refined approaches to rendering subject matter.
Laurie studied Illustration for Animated Publication Design at SCAD, completing her degree in 2025. She is currently self employed as a freelance illustrator and art direction tutor for her clients’ independent projects.
Along with illustrating, Laurie boasts interest in music, gardening, health and wellness, cooking, natural sciences, and roller skating. Despite her favorite thing to draw being fish, she has never caught one. She does, however, have a pet brown widow named Poppy. She also fosters cats in her free time, and her life dream is to one day be the lead singer of a rock band. Her favorite color is chartreuse, she lost her first tooth when she was six, she’s a weak swimmer, will eat a tomato like it’s an apple, and threw up every Tuesday (and only Tuesdays) in the fourth grade for two months straight and never figured out why. Truly, she is a woman of mystique and wonder.
